Drew is in surgery

We arrived in Memphis yesterday around 2:00 p.m. and checked into the hospital. Drew had an MRI around 4:00 and was ready for surgery this morning. The doctors will be placing strips of electrodes beneath his skull that will be able to map the exact location of his seizures. He is so ready to get on with all of this and went into the OR with a huge smile on his face. He will be in surgery for 2-3 hours and then will head to ICU, where he will stay the night. They will bring him back up to his room sometime tomorrow and reduce his anti-seizure medications in hopes of him having seizures that will be recorded. The doctors have a very good idea of the seizure focus. This is just information that will confirm details for them. The plan is that he will go back into surgery a week from today to remove the strips and the seizure focus.

Thank you so much for your prayers for a successful surgery and for peace knowing that Drew is in God's hands.

Hey Cat!
I started the day praying for you guys and have continued sending up arrow prayers as I drive, etc. One of my praises is that Drew has been eager and is leading you as parents to be at peace with the process. May God continue to overwhelm you with His peace and strength as you go step by step through this process!
Love,
Stacey

Dear Wenske Family,
I was so excited to read the update, especially to hear of Drew's smiling face. I know he is a light to those who come in contact with him at the hospital. I prayed for Drew many times today and I'm glad to hear things went well. I printed off the pictures from the send off party last Friday, so if you give me an address in Memphis I can send them to you, otherwise I'll hold them until you arrive home.
In Christ's love,
Michele Anderson, Tyler's mom

Hi Catherine,
I hope this email finds you rejoicing after a successful surgery and Drew resting soundly.
The picture of Drew rolling into OR with a smile on his face put a smile on mine.
Know John, Johnny, Abby and I are praying for strength and endurance for you and Drew as well as insight and wisdom for his doctors.
Much love and big hugs,
Kerri Ann

Dearest Wenske Family,
We are not surprised to hear of Drew dressed in smiles. We cannot imagine anything less! We, too, were smiles at the word of a successful surgery. But we did miss Drew terribly today and need to know where to send this ream of paper, so he can continue making our paper airplanes. Oh, and tell him we finally made it out of Jeremiah. We are now in Hebrews, the great "rest" book; how appropriate.
With Great Love,
Drew's adoring fans...
His silly classmates...
And his dotting teacher
